Improved infrastructure for ILA 2010

Basic agreement signed between BDLI, Messe Berlin, the state authorities of Berlin and Brandenburg and Schönefeld Airport

Berlin, 9 July 2009 – With yesterday’s signing of the basic agreement on the ILA by the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) the stage is now set for work to commence on the final preparations for the ILA Berlin Air Show 2010.

In its centenary year the world’s oldest international aerospace trade show, which is being held from 8 to 13 June 2010, will be taking place on the temporary exhibition site at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport – occupying part of the future Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BBI) – for the final time.

The promoters, BDLI, and the organisers, Messe Berlin, will be providing exhibitors and visitors with a number of improvements to the transport links and to the hall and chalet areas.

This has been agreed between the two contracting partners, the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg, and the Berlin-Schönefeld Airport Company.

Successful canvassing for exhibitors

Despite the difficult economic situation at the present time the BDLI is very satisfied with the number of applications received from exhibitors, and by the enquiries received from potential newcomers to this event.

“Trade shows with a clear focus are essential for our industry, especially in the face of difficult economic conditions and global competition. With the ILA and its supporting programme we have created an attractive platform for all exhibitors, with a high intensity of contacts of outstanding quality”, said Dietmar Schrick, Chief Executive of the BDLI. “We are currently observing that numerous exhibitors are taking advantage of the favourable ten per cent discount for those making early reservations. This offer continues until 31 October 2009. Such attractive features make this a unique event which benefits all its trade visitors and exhibitors”, Schrick added.

Raimund Hosch, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin, drew attention to the high standing enjoyed by this well established trade show: “The ILA gives added emphasis to the German capital and surrounding region as a location for business and science, with a lasting impact on safeguarding the importance of Berlin/Brandenburg as one of the major locations for the aerospace industry in Germany. With the ILA 2010 Messe Berlin once again demonstrates its expertise in the organisation and staging of a trade show that is a remarkable event in more ways than one.”

Long term planning for a site from 2012 onwards

In view of the expansion that will result in the creation of a major airport, the BBI, from 2012 onwards the ILA will need to relocate to a new site. An area in the Selchow district, to the south west of the BBI, is being developed for this purpose. All the partners in this project have agreed to this move. Now it is important to clarify various issues as quickly as possible, including questions about financing, potential investors and the year-round operation of the exhibition area that will be created, before a final decision can be made about the long term location for the ILA after 2010.
