ILA2008: ISC presents opportunities for suppliers

Around 100 exhibitors expected – ISC programme with outstanding participants - Leading firms are sending representatives from their purchasing departments

Berlin, 10 March 2008 – With numerous exhibitors from the supply sector, many buyers from the aerospace industry applying to attend, and a forum programme with some outstanding participants, the International Suppliers Center (ISC) at the ILA2008 will be the focus of attention for the entire supply industry. German suppliers will occupy Hall 7, while the remainder of the industry will have its own hall (6), which has been specially planned to meet the needs of the suppliers of equipment and other materials as a “fair within the fair”. The ISC will only be open during the three trade visitors’ days at the ILA (27-29 May). Serving a specialist exhibition and a communication platform, the ISC is intended to assist with the restructuring of the equipment industry, as well as promoting a dialogue between suppliers and systems companies. The ISC will help second and third level suppliers in particular to establish and intensify their business links. The specific benefit of this event: systems companies, which form the most important target group for the supply industry, will already be present as exhibitors at the ILA. The ISC will be opened on 27 May by Peter Hintze, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology and the Federal Government’s Aerospace Co-ordinator.

Around 100 exhibitors from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, India, Italy, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Hungary and the USA will be represented at the ISC. They will include such companies as W.L. Gore, Flir Systems, Rolled Alloys and Continental AG, associations including bavAIRia and Hanse Aerospace, as well as well-known institutes such as the Fraunhofer Institute and the German standards organisation Deutsche Institut für Normung. Making their first appearance here are the SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) from Dearborn/Michigan, and one of the major names in the industry in the USA, Exostar, which is the market leader in North America and provides an impartial internet platform for suppliers to all sectors of the aerospace and defence industries. Set up jointly by BAE Systems, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Rolls-Royce, the company currently represents 85 of the leading 100 aerospace firms. The network created by Exostar now encompasses some 38,000 manufacturers and suppliers, ensuring efficient collaboration with business partners, customers and suppliers.

Leading firms are sending delegations of buyers

Many leading firms and systems companies will be sending representatives from their purchasing departments to the ISC. One of the most notable delegations will be arriving on 28 May, when some 20 high-ranking representatives of the EADS buying network will be commencing a two-hour tour of the fair at 9.30 a.m. in order to make contact with exhibitors. This network comprises some of the most important suppliers to EADS, including such firms as Cobham, Eaton, GE Aerospace, Goodrich, Hamilton Sundstrand, Honeywell Aerospace, Liebherr Aerospace, Northrop-Grumman, Pratt and Whitney Canada, Rockwell Collins, Safran, Thales Aerospace and Zodiac. The main buyers from these firms will also be accompanied by leading executives from EADS Corporate Sourcing and from the Airbus, Eurocopter, Defence and Security, Military Transport Aircraft and Astrium divisions of EADS.

Further discussions will take place on 28 May about the approach that will have to be adopted in the future by supplier firms in the aerospace sector.
