Path of Innovation - “Low-emission flight”

PATH OF INNOVATION
All progress starts with an innovative idea.

ILA Berlin Air Show 2008 has set up a “Path of Innovation” to focus attention on important new products and research projects which could easily be overlooked in all the hustle and bustle of the trade show.
>> Brochure "Path of Innovation" (PDF document)
Trade visitors and technology enthusiasts will get informed about the current state of research and development in a specific field while conveniently walking along the Path of Innovation. The new exhibition parcours will be dedicated to “Low-emission flight” this year - and with good reason: Air traffic continues to grow. The aerospace industry is well aware of its environmental responsibilities and is continuously developing new solutions to protect people and nature.

Ideas range from ecologically compatible materials to innovative concepts for improved energy efficiency and helicopter noise reduction. Twenty-four exhibitors from all sectors of the aerospace industry will present their latest innovation projects on “Low-emission flight” along ILA’s first Path of Innovation. A special Path of Innovation logo will point directly to the stands of participating exhibitors.

CRTF (Counter Rotating Turbo Fan)
Counter Rotating Turbo Fans are potentially beneficial in terms of fuel consumption due to an improved fan efficiency. An emission-free future: In addition they feature low noise emissions by means of a decreased fan rotational speed. Thus the CRTF is an example of future high bypass and low emission engine concepts.

The spn - an aircraft made from carbon fibre
Grob Aerospace presents the first all carbon fibre business jet, the spn. Carbon fibre manufacture is increasingly replacing aluminium owing to its light weight and thus less fuel consumption. Carbon fibre aircraft prove to be “greener” than all-aluminium aircraft also in its manufacturing process: Less raw material, less primary energy and basically no toxic substances are used in the manufacturing process.
